These Terms govern your use of Jack's Level (the "Platform"). By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to them.
What Jack's Level is — and is not
Jack's Level is a marketplace that connects homeowners ("DIY" users) with experienced tradespeople ("Foremen") for planning, guidance, and accountability. The homeowner performs the labor.
Jack's Level is nota general contractor, construction manager, home-improvement contractor, or licensed trade provider. We do not perform, manage, supervise, inspect, or guarantee any construction or home-improvement work, and we are not a party to any arrangement between a homeowner and a Foreman. Foremen are independent third parties, not employees or agents of Jack's Level, and we do not direct or control the guidance they provide.
Verification is best-effort, not a guarantee
Badges such as "Verified" identity, phone, or license indicate that we performed a basic review at a point in time. They are nota warranty of a Foreman's skill, licensing status, insurance, or fitness for your project. You are responsible for your own due diligence, including confirming licenses, permits, insurance, and code compliance with the appropriate authorities.
Your responsibilities and assumption of risk
DIY work can be hazardous. You are solely responsible for your safety, for obtaining required permits, for compliance with building codes and laws, and for the outcome of your project. Guidance offered through the Platform is informational and does not replace professional engineering, inspection, or contractor services where those are required.
Our Responsibility & Liability Framework sets out, in detail, what the DIYer, the Foreman, and the Platform are each responsible for. You confirm the parts that apply to you at sign-up and at key points in a project.
The project journal
The shared project journal is a mutually-approved, timestamped record of work, decisions, and recommendations. It is a communication and record-keeping tool — not a contract, a permit, an inspection, or a certification of work.
Payments
Projects use a pre-agreed payment amount set before work begins, grounded in the hours recorded and mutually approved in the journal. Payments are processed by our third-party processor, Stripe, under Stripe's terms. Jack's Level facilitates the agreement but is not a party to it: we do not process payments, hold or control funds, set prices, store card or bank details, or resolve payment disputes between homeowners and Foremen. Amounts are gross and we do not withhold taxes; see our Responsibility & Liability Framework.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Platform: no unlawful, abusive, fraudulent, or infringing content; no impersonation; no attempts to circumvent security or access others' data. We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Content Policy.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Jack's Level disclaims all warranties and is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for the acts, omissions, guidance, or work of any homeowner or Foreman.
Changes
We may update these Terms; material changes will be reflected by a new version date and, where appropriate, renewed acceptance. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
