Why we built this

Jack's Level started as a joke that wouldn't go away.

I'm a DIY'er who takes on a lot myself. For years, whenever I hit the tricky parts of a project (finishing a basement, laying a backsplash), I'd call a friend in construction who knows the trades cold and pick his brain. How would you do this? What's next? I wanted guidance, not someone taking over the labor.

I started joking that I should pay for that kind of help, and that there ought to be a place where people get paid for sharing it. Somewhere along the way the joke stuck. I realized that could actually be a thing.

So I decided to build it. A way to connect professionals with DIY'ers who want paid guidance on planning, how-to, and next steps, without hiring someone to take over the work. With help building the site, that idea became Jack's Level.

Today it's guided DIY. You do the labor. A Foreman helps with planning and guidance. A shared journal keeps the decisions, photos, and approvals in one place both sides can see. It's for people who want to own the build and still want a steady hand beside them.

Build it yourself. Not by yourself.

Free to explore. Foremen guide; you do the labor.
